At Restore Wellness Collective, we offer Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) to help men regain energy, confidence, and overall well-being. As men age, testosterone levels can naturally decline, leading to symptoms like fatigue, low libido, mood changes, brain fog, and loss of muscle mass. TRT is a safe and effective way to restore your body’s testosterone to healthy levels through customized treatment options such as injections, topical gels, patches, or implants.
Under the care of Amy, our experienced and compassionate Nurse Practitioner, your journey begins with a comprehensive consultation and lab work to determine if low testosterone is contributing to the symptoms you’re experiencing. If TRT is a good fit for you, Amy will work closely with you to develop a personalized plan tailored to your lifestyle and health goals. At Restore Wellness Collective, we’re here to support you every step of the way—so you can feel stronger, sharper, and more like yourself again.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

At Restore Wellness Collective, we believe in transparency and patient education to ensure you feel comfortable every step of the way. We're here to provide personalized guidance and support tailored to your unique needs.

For men with clinically low testosterone, TRT can lead to significant improvements, such as:

1. Improved Energy and Vitality
  • Many men report feeling more energized and less fatigued after starting TRT.
  • Can lead to better endurance and motivation for daily tasks and workouts.

2. Enhanced Libido and Sexual Function
  • TRT can improve sex drive, erectile function, and overall sexual satisfaction.
  • Particularly helpful for men experiencing low desire or performance issues linked to low testosterone.

3. Increased Muscle Mass and Strength
  • Supports muscle protein synthesis, helping to build and maintain lean muscle.
  • Often leads to improved physical performance and faster recovery after exercise.

4. Reduced Body Fat
Restoring testosterone levels can help shift body composition by reducing fat mass, especially stubborn belly fat.

5. Improved Mood and Mental Clarity
  • May reduce symptoms of depression, irritability, and anxiety caused by hormone imbalances.
  • Many patients report feeling more focused, motivated, and mentally sharp.

6. Stronger Bones
TRT can increase bone mineral density, reducing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures in older men.

7. Better Sleep (for Some)
  • Balanced testosterone may improve sleep patterns, although results vary.
  • These benefits usually take a few weeks to a few months to fully kick in and vary by individual.

While Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) offers significant benefits for men’s overall health and quality of life, it’s important to be aware of potential risks. Below is a summary of common side effects, along with strategies we use at Restore Wellness Collective to help minimize these risks and ensure safe, effective treatment.

1. Infertility
  • Risk: TRT can suppress natural sperm production, sometimes leading to temporary or long-term infertility.
  • How to mitigate: Men wishing to preserve fertility should discuss using medications like hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which can maintain or stimulate sperm production alongside or instead of TRT.

2. Testicular Shrinkage
  • Risk: The body may reduce its own testosterone production, leading to smaller testicles.
  • How to mitigate: hCG therapy can help preserve testicular size and function while on TRT.

3. Increased Red Blood Cell Count (Polycythemia)
  • Risk: Higher red blood cell levels can raise the risk of blood clots, stroke, or heart problems.
  • How to mitigate: Regular blood tests to monitor hematocrit and hemoglobin. If levels get too high, therapeutic phlebotomy (blood donation) may be recommended.

4. Prostate Health Concerns
  • Risk: TRT can raise PSA levels and potentially worsen undiagnosed prostate conditions.
  • How to mitigate: Annual PSA screening and digital rectal exams. Men with active or high-risk prostate cancer are usually not candidates for TRT.

5. Acne and Skin Changes
  • Risk: Some men experience acne, oily skin, or hair changes.
  • How to mitigate: Adjust the dose or delivery method (e.g., switching from injection to gel), or use skincare products to manage symptoms. In some cases, low-dose medications may help.

6. Fluid Retention
  • Risk: Mild swelling, especially in the ankles or hands.
  • How to mitigate: Stay hydrated, reduce sodium intake, and adjust the TRT dosage if needed. Monitoring kidney function may also be advised.

7. Sleep Apnea Worsening
  • Risk: TRT can exacerbate existing sleep apnea.
  • How to mitigate: Get evaluated for sleep apnea before starting TRT. Use CPAP therapy if diagnosed. Avoid excess weight gain and alcohol use.

8. Mood Swings or Aggression (Rare)
  • Risk: Imbalanced testosterone levels can affect mood in some individuals.
  • How to mitigate: Start with conservative dosing and monitor blood levels regularly. Work closely with your provider to fine-tune your regimen and support mental health if needed.

9. Need for Ongoing Monitoring
  • Risk: TRT is not a “one-and-done” treatment—it requires long-term commitment and medical oversight.
  • How to mitigate: Follow up every 3–6 months with your provider for labs (testosterone, hematocrit, PSA, etc.) and adjust the plan as needed. Consistent care = best results.

Men who might benefit most from TRT typically:

  • Have clinically low total or free testosterone levels, confirmed by blood tests taken in the morning
  • Experience symptoms of low T, such as fatigue, low libido, muscle loss, mood issues, or erectile dysfunction
  • Are in otherwise good health, or have a manageable medical profile
Patients on Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) will typically need blood work every 3 to 6 months, especially during the first year of treatment. Regular monitoring is essential to ensure that testosterone levels stay within a healthy range and to watch for any potential side effects, such as elevated red blood cell count, changes in liver function, or increases in PSA (prostate-specific antigen) levels. These labs help Amy tailor your treatment plan, adjust dosing if needed, and keep your therapy both safe and effective over time.
